Thousands of former Cognizant employees returning to the company, says CEO

Cognizant Technology Solutions had seen nearly 13,000 of the old employees returning to the company in the last few months. Another 10,000 are wanting to return back to the company, said its CEO S Ravi Kumar.

“We now have a hybrid model. Our employees come to work three days a week and we kind of calendarised it in the way that we get full utilisation of our facilities,” he told newspersons during the company’s fourth quarter financial results announcement.

On the company exiting some of its facilities, Kumar said they were old and either you modernise them or you actually build new facilities. “We had a unique opportunity to go into Tier 2 cities which we are now doing and we have already announced three and will probably announce more tier 2 cities. We will equally look for expansion in Tier 1. But you know it was a phase of consolidation. Now it’s a phase of expansion. We will continue to invest on capex to do that,” he said.

Jatin Dalal – Chief Financial Officer, Cognizant, said, the company is exiting a few facilities that are no longer being used or those the company do not plan to use. But, at the same time the company is making significant investments of capex in building new facilities and going to the newer tier-2 cities that we have not been present in before. This includes Bhubaneswar, Indore and GIFT city in Ahmedabad that will be inaugurated in a few weeks. A new facility was opened in Hyderabad a few months back.

“We are expanding and investing where we need to invest based on the proximity that we want to offer to our employees and where we feel strategic value from local availability of talent in engineering colleges for long term sustainable development possible. We are making good investments and planning for growth,” he said.
